Committees

Pick a committee that matches your experience. Open a committee to see what it does. Topics and chairs will be published on MyMUN.

  • The UN body responsible for international peace and security. Its 15 members, five of them permanent with a veto, can impose sanctions, authorise peacekeeping missions and pass resolutions that are binding on every member state.

  • The court in The Hague that tries individuals for genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes and the crime of aggression. In MUN it runs as a simulated trial, with delegates arguing a case from evidence and international law.

  • Delegates step back into a real moment from the past and debate it as it happened, knowing only what was known at the time. Their decisions can take history in a different direction.

  • A fast-moving committee where the situation changes as you debate. A crisis team sends updates throughout the conference, and delegates respond with short directives instead of long resolutions.

  • The Second Committee of the General Assembly. It deals with economic growth, trade, debt, development finance and the fight against poverty.

  • A council of 47 member states that promotes and protects human rights around the world. It investigates violations and reviews the human rights record of every UN member.

  • The defence alliance of 32 countries in Europe and North America, built on the promise that an attack on one member is an attack on all. Delegates debate collective defence, crisis response and the security threats facing the alliance.

  • UN Women works for gender equality worldwide. It helps countries write laws and policies that protect women and girls, end violence against them and bring more women into leadership.

  • Helps countries fight illicit drugs, organised crime, human trafficking, corruption and terrorism, and supports fair criminal justice systems and drug-use prevention.

  • The UN agency for global health. It coordinates the response to pandemics and health emergencies, sets international health standards and works to give everyone access to healthcare.

  • The UN's leading voice on the environment. It tackles climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution, and helps countries put environmental agreements into practice.

  • The governing body of world football. Delegates represent national football associations and debate issues such as hosting the World Cup, player welfare, fair play and how the money in the game is shared.
